The Maldives results are a big surprise as incumbent Abdulla Yameen lost to the unified opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, which should soon be officially confirmed by Maldivian election Commission.

After years of strained relations, due to UPA & Congress neglect; between India and it's Indian Ocean neighbor the election result have/ will open a Pro-India chapter in bilateral ties. Ibrahim Solih is likely to correct the tilt of Maldives from China and Saudi Arabia and become more accommodating to India's security interest.
In the past one year India was under pressure to act against Maldives and was even contemplating military action at one time.
